Love of Her Life

After retiring and later in life, Mother Gomez and Elton met and later married, in Deerfield Beach, FL, and was a union for over twenty-nine years. Elton is a native Trinidadian and did everything for Omega until his own health issues prevented him from doing so. As his health issues declined, Mother Gomez took over as his caregiver and ensured he received the best care. He would often tell her of his days in Trinidad and how he was blessed to come to America and more importantly, eventually meet her. The two would sit together and watch old movies; specifically, westerns and talk about them like it was the first time they saw them. They both enjoyed watching “Gunsmoke®!” They had a unique love for one another that is really hard to put into words.

Family

She has raised three lovely daughters and four strong sons. She has fourteen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Her seven children are; Joyce Carey of Deerfield Beach, FL; Felecia Wilder (Dr. Gary) of Margate, FL; Oliver Nesmith (Michelle) of Port St. Lucie, FL; Carl Nesmith (Gwen) of Lauderhill, FL; George Nesmith (Lisa) of Deerfield Beach, FL; Elvernia Thompson (Darrell) of Margate, FL; and Thayer Nesmith of the home.

Education

Omega attended school in Deerfield Beach at Braithwaite Elementary /Middle school and graduated from Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach in 1956.

Activities

In the community, she volunteered at the North East Focal Point center here in Deerfield Beach. While there she enjoyed modeling various outfits, exercise classes, playing Bingo (where she often won), and sharing her knowledge of Black History. In her past time, she enjoyed old movies, specifically old westerns, as she talked about each movie as if it was the first time, she watched it as she told you each scene prior to its coming.

That’s my Aunt Omega. She was a gorgeous lady & a fancy dresser. She was always fun and loving. Jerome & I will always hold a special place for her in our hearts. We will forever love and remember how she made us feel and welcomed us to her and Elton’s home when we visited and fellowshipped with them. Love you forever, Jerome & Hattie Scott Walker (Ann) Moultrie, Ga
